The Pima County Sheriff’s Department stated on August 17 that human remains discovered near the home of Nancy Guthrie do not appear to be connected to her ongoing disappearance case. The remains were located approximately 15 miles from Guthrie's residence in Tucson, Arizona, where she was last seen on January 31. The sheriff's department indicated that the remains seem to have been at the site for an extended period and confirmed that there is currently no evidence linking them to the investigation into Guthrie's kidnapping.
Authorities have not identified any suspects in the case. This announcement follows the release of a ransom note from Guthrie's alleged kidnapper, along with a subsequent note suggesting that she had died. The sheriff's department noted that the communications from the suspect exhibit unique linguistic patterns that may provide insight into their mindset and motives.
Physical evidence in the case remains limited, with a recent DNA test from hair found at Guthrie’s home yielding no leads. Investigators continue to seek information regarding an unidentified male captured on Guthrie’s doorbell camera on the night she went missing, as well as footage of a masked individual at her home prior to her disappearance. The sheriff's department is appealing to the public for any observations related to the unidentified male's behavior around the time of the incident.
