Senator Jon Ossoff (D-GA) has stated that he has no interest in running for president in the 2028 election, emphasizing that his focus is on the upcoming 2026 midterm elections. In an interview on MS NOW, Ossoff responded to speculation about a potential presidential run, asserting, "I have zero interest in running for president in 2028 and, frankly, zero interest in the 2028 fantasy football right now."
He addressed rumors of a joint ticket with Senator Mark Kelly (D-AZ), noting that Kelly was in Georgia to campaign with him, highlighting the importance of the midterm elections. Ossoff remarked, "I don’t know that we have a free and fair election in 2028 unless we restore checks and balances in these 2026 midterm elections," urging support for Democratic campaigns.
Ossoff's recent public image changes have drawn comparisons to former President Barack Obama, as he seeks to appeal to centrist voters following the Democratic Party's challenges in recent elections. Other potential centrist candidates for the 2028 election include Governors Josh Shapiro (D-PA), Wes Moore (D-MD), and Andy Beshear (D-KY).
In response to Ossoff's comments, former President Donald Trump dismissed the senator's criticisms, referring to him as a "Pee-wee Herman look-alike" and discussing his focus on improving the White House.
