Ryan Elijah has won the primary election against incumbent Rep. Cory Mills (R-FL), receiving 46.9% of the vote compared to Mills's 34.5%. The Associated Press called the race at 8:08 p.m. on August 19, 2026. Mills's campaign faced allegations of domestic violence, stolen valor, and financial impropriety, which may have contributed to his defeat.
Elijah's victory was supported by endorsements from fellow Florida Republicans, including Reps. Anna Paulina Luna and Mike Haridopolos, as well as Governor Ron DeSantis, who did not support Mills. The two representatives stated, "We need leaders in Congress who serve with integrity, energy, and an unwavering commitment to the people who sent them there. Ryan Elijah is that leader."
Despite receiving an endorsement from former President Donald Trump earlier in the year, Mills has recently not been included in Trump's endorsements for other Florida candidates. The House Ethics Committee is investigating Mills over various allegations, including potential violations of campaign finance laws and misconduct. Mills has denied any wrongdoing.
Mills's loss follows a decline in his poll numbers, even though he had a moderate lead earlier in the month. The Cook Political Report had previously shifted the district's classification from "likely Republican" to "lean Republican." Elijah will now face Democratic candidate Bale Dalton in the upcoming election.
