Elijah Manley criticizes Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz for running in majority-black district

During an interview on CNN, Manley described Wasserman Schultz's decision as 'cynical.' He stated, 'I think that ultimately it’s up to the voters. And not every voter is going to vote, you know, on racial lines.' Manley expressed concerns that the crowded field could split the black vote, potentially aiding Wasserman Schultz in securing the Democratic nomination. The 20th District, which includes Fort Lauderdale, has historically been represented by a black member of Congress and remains heavily Democratic. Manley emphasized the need for consolidation among black candidates but acknowledged the challenges posed by individual ambitions. The primary has also become a contest over the ideological direction of the Democratic Party, with Manley criticizing Wasserman Schultz on issues such as healthcare and campaign contributions. Florida voters will participate in the primary election on Tuesday, with Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) recently attending a rally for Manley and other progressive candidates.
