United Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing Due to Passenger Incident

A United Airlines flight from Chicago to Minneapolis made an emergency landing in Madison, Wisconsin, on May 29, 2026, after a passenger allegedly attempted to breach the cockpit. The flight took off from O'Hare International Airport around 8 p.m. CDT and landed safely at Dane County Regional Airport approximately 90 minutes later to address a security concern involving the passenger. Air traffic control audio indicated that the passenger made multiple attempts to access the cockpit. A crew member reported that the individual was eventually subdued and seated with law enforcement on either side. The Dane County Sheriff's Office confirmed that five off-duty law enforcement officers were on board and detained the passenger. The FBI was notified of the incident and responded accordingly. Following the situation, passengers were able to continue their flight.
