New York Woman Faces Terrorism Charges for Alleged ISIS Plot

Jessica Bowie, a 35-year-old woman from upstate New York, has been charged with terrorism after allegedly converting to Islam, pledging allegiance to the Islamic State group, and plotting to bomb the State Capitol building. According to the FBI, Bowie became a Muslim five years ago and adopted the name Aisha Saif. She was arrested after allegedly attempting to recruit confidential informants, whom she believed to be ISIS operatives, to assist her in creating an explosive device and obtaining a handgun. Court documents indicate that she expressed support for the 9/11 attacks and had lost multiple social media accounts due to her posts promoting violence. Bowie reportedly used encrypted messaging apps to share radical Islamic propaganda and had scouted the State Capitol on multiple occasions. She allegedly purchased bomb-making materials and expressed intentions to cause harm to U.S. senators. Bowie was arrested on August 19, 2026, after allegedly providing money to informants and receiving an inert handgun and dummy explosive. Following her arrest, she acknowledged the seriousness of her situation, stating that she anticipated a lengthy prison sentence.
