Senator Tim Scott defended South Carolina Republican Senator Darline Graham on NBC News’ "Meet the Press" ahead of her special GOP primary runoff. Scott dismissed concerns regarding Graham's recent debate mistake on national security, stating, "Darline Graham is the real deal" and expressing confidence in her qualifications. Graham, who was appointed to fill her late brother's Senate seat, faced scrutiny after admitting a lack of knowledge on national security during a debate against Rep. Ralph Norman. Scott emphasized his endorsement of Graham, stating it was an "easy choice" for him.
Scott also discussed competitive Senate races in Texas, Michigan, and Iowa, criticizing Democratic nominee Abdul El-Sayed's campaign tactics and character. He refrained from commenting on the character of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who is facing allegations of misconduct, while labeling his opponent, James Talarico, as "weird" and "radical." Talarico has countered that GOP attacks are distractions from the issues surrounding Paxton's conduct.
