Wildlife Officers Tranquilize Young Bear in Denver for Relocation

A young black bear was tranquilized by wildlife officers in Denver on Sunday before being relocated to a more suitable habitat. Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) reported that officers responded to the bear's location near Louisiana Avenue and Pennsylvania Street. The bear, identified as a 1.5-year-old male weighing approximately 100 pounds, fell from the tree after being tranquilized. Video footage showed the bear dropping through branches before being secured by officers on the ground. CPW noted an increase in bear activity this year, attributed to drought conditions and reduced natural food sources, with 6,129 reports of bear sightings and conflicts received between January 1 and August 13, compared to 3,115 during the same period last year. Officials are advising residents to secure trash and remove food sources to prevent bear conflicts, as bears become more active in preparation for winter.
