A man died after being stabbed on Sunday afternoon in Atlanta, Georgia, near the Beltline walking trail. The incident occurred at 725 Ponce de Leon Avenue shortly after 4 p.m., according to Chief of Police Darin Schierbaum. The victim was a 29-year-old male resident of the city.
Police apprehended a 54-year-old man named Jonathan Hamby, who is believed to be responsible for the stabbing. Hamby has a significant criminal history, with 30 previous arrest cycles and is a convicted felon currently on active probation for an aggravated assault. Schierbaum stated that the incident stemmed from a verbal argument that escalated, leading to Hamby allegedly using a knife to stab the victim.
In May, a 23-year-old woman was also fatally stabbed on the Beltline, which is frequently used for commuting and recreational activities. The police believe they have recovered the weapon used in the attack.
