World Humanoid Robot Games Held in Beijing Showcase Robotic Capabilities

<p>Videos from the World Humanoid Robot Games show robots sprinting and breaking the human 100-meter record previously held by Usain Bolt, while also displaying limitations such as crashing into barriers and falling due to inability to stop. Some robots reportedly broke at the waist and emitted sparks or caught fire during the event.</p><p>The second edition of the World Humanoid Robot Games took place in Beijing from August 22 to 26, 2026. Similar to the inaugural event in 2025, this year's competition included challenges for humanoid robots to run, perform kung fu or dance moves, engage in kickboxing, and play soccer or table tennis.</p><p>This year's games also featured practical tasks such as washing and hanging laundry, where robots demonstrated slower speeds compared to typical human workers. This indicates that event organizers, including Chinese state media and the Beijing city government, aim to highlight the commercial potential of humanoid robots amid the rapid development of China's robotics industry.</p>
