Former Missouri news anchor pleads guilty to mother's murder

<p>Angelynn "Angie" Mock, a former television news anchor in Missouri, pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree murder for fatally stabbing her mother, 80-year-old Anita Avers, on October 31, 2025. The Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office announced the plea on August 25, 2026.</p><p>As part of the plea agreement, Mock faces a life sentence in prison, with eligibility for parole after 25 years.</p><p>Authorities reported that officers responded to a call at the Wichita home shared by Mock, Avers, and Mock's stepfather at approximately 7:50 a.m. Upon arrival, Mock was found outside with cuts on her hands. Avers was transported to a hospital with multiple stab wounds and later died.</p><p>According to a probable cause affidavit, Mock made statements suggesting she believed her mother was the devil and claimed she killed her mother to "save herself." Mock's stepfather informed KAKE-TV that she had been diagnosed with mental illness and had experienced delusions and depression.</p><p>Mock previously worked as a news anchor and reporter for Fox 2 in St. Louis from 2011 to 2015 and was a morning anchor at KOKH-TV in Oklahoma City from 2007 to 2011. Her LinkedIn profile indicates she held other reporting positions in Minnesota, Montana, and Nebraska.</p><p>Sentencing for Mock is scheduled for October 5, 2026.</p>
