51-Year-Old Woman Dies Following Extensive Plastic Surgery Procedure

The procedures, which she had saved for years to afford, included a combination of six surgeries costing approximately £17,000, or $23,000.</p><p>Gaspar died hours after the eight-hour procedure on August 12. She was a businesswoman from Brazil who had lived in Spain for five years before returning to her home country for the surgery at Hospital Ankar in Goiânia.</p><p>The surgeries included a deep-plane facelift, blepharoplasty (eyelid lift), forehead lift (brow lift), neck liposuction, and bony genioplasty (chin reshaping). Additionally, she received nanofat injections to enhance skin texture and reduce fine lines.</p><p>According to her family, Gaspar's health declined rapidly after leaving the hospital, and she experienced severe pain. Her sister, Djiane Vieira, reported that Gaspar's tongue swelled significantly, impairing her ability to close her mouth and breathe. Vieira stated that she communicated with her sister's medical team, indicating that Gaspar was in critical condition.</p><p>When emergency services arrived, they were unable to revive Gaspar. A medical report identified the cause of death as acute thrombosis and pulmonary infarction, conditions involving blood clots and lung tissue death due to a lack of blood supply.</p><p>The Goiás Public Prosecutor’s Office has requested a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death, potentially involving charges of involuntary manslaughter.</p><p>Dr. Lessandro Martins, the surgeon who performed the procedures, expressed sympathy for the family and stated confidence that the investigation would show that appropriate care was provided. Hospital Ankar's lawyer, Cristiene Pereira Couto, affirmed that the patient received immediate emergency treatment and that the necessary measures were taken in response to her condition. Couto also noted that Gaspar's pre-surgery evaluation was conducted externally.</p>
