SEC Implements Policy Prohibiting Former Professional Athletes from Returning to College Sports

The Southeastern Conference (SEC) has established a policy prohibiting athletes who have declared for professional basketball and football from returning to college sports. This decision was made during a meeting with league presidents, athletic directors, and chancellors, resulting in a unanimous vote of 16-0, as reported by ESPN. According to the policy, SEC institutions are 'not permitted' to have athletes on their rosters if they have previously declared for the draft. SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey is authorized to enforce this policy and impose penalties on member institutions that do not comply. The specific nature of these penalties has yet to be disclosed. The SEC stated that the movement between college and professional sports could 'blur the line' between the two levels, emphasizing the need for the Protect College Sports Act.
