Matt Gogel suspended for six months for betting on PGA Tour events

<p>Matt Gogel, a golfer on the PGA Tour Champions circuit, has been suspended for six months by the organization for placing bets on PGA Tour events. The suspension will begin on Sunday and last until February 22, 2027.</p><p>In a statement, Gogel claimed that he placed "small recreational wagers on golf" in 2024 without realizing it. He emphasized that these wagers were not placed on regular PGA Tour events, PGA Tour Champions events, or any tournaments in which he participated. "I would never knowingly violate the integrity of the game of golf. I made an honest mistake, and I look forward to playing in 2027 on the PGA Tour Champions," Gogel stated.</p><p>The PGA Tour confirmed that Gogel did not bet on any tournaments he participated in but noted that he violated the Tour’s integrity program, which prohibits wagering on PGA-sanctioned events. Gogel is not the first golfer to be suspended for betting on PGA Tour events; in 2023, Vince India and Jake Staiano on the Korn Ferry Tour received suspensions of six months and three months, respectively, for similar violations.</p><p>Gogel, 55, has one PGA Tour victory, which occurred at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am in 2002. After his playing career, he became a golf broadcaster with The Golf Channel and CBS Sports. He joined the PGA Tour Champions, the senior circuit of the golf organization, upon turning 50. Currently, Gogel ranks 20th in the Charles Schwab Cup points race.</p>
