Karolina Muchova and Jakub Mensik win US Open mixed doubles title

Czech pair Karolina Muchova and Jakub Mensik defeated Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic and Italy's Flavio Cobolli with a score of 6-3, 1-6, 10-6 to win the US Open mixed doubles title, marking their first Grand Slam trophy as a team. The match took place on Wednesday at Arthur Ashe Stadium. Muchova and Mensik started strong, with Mensik serving an ace to secure the first set in under 30 minutes. Bencic responded by breaking serve for a 3-1 lead in the second set, leveling the match when her forehand clipped the net and went beyond Muchova. In the deciding 10-point match tiebreak, Mensik's effective serving and net play allowed the Czechs to take control. Mensik opened an 8-4 lead with a firm volley, and Muchova followed with a strong serve to set up championship points. Mensik clinched the victory with another ace, celebrating their first trophy of the season's final Grand Slam. Earlier in the tournament, Muchova and Mensik saved two match points against Russians Mirra Andreeva and Andrey Rublev in the semifinals. During the trophy ceremony, Muchova remarked on the significance of their matching outfits and expressed surprise at their success, stating, "I wasn’t really expecting to be standing here tonight. We came out just to have fun and enjoy these mixed doubles and now we are standing here. So we did something right." She also congratulated Bencic and Cobolli. The mixed doubles draw featured 16 teams and began on Tuesday, with the tournament's revamped format aimed at attracting larger crowds before the singles main draw. Notable teams included Novak Djokovic with Aryna Sabalenka and Carlos Alcaraz with Serena Williams.
