Two Suspected Human Smugglers Lead Police on High-Speed Chase in Texas

Two suspected human smugglers led authorities on a 100-mph chase in Texas on Thursday before exiting their vehicle, with one allegedly carjacking a civilian at gunpoint, according to authorities. Helicopter footage from US Customs and Border Protection’s Air and Marine Operations captured the pursuit along Interstate 10 in Fabens. Authorities pursued the suspects until their vehicle was disabled, reportedly due to a spike strip damaging the front right tire. The vehicle slowed down, and both occupants fled on foot. A voice can be heard in the video urging, "Bail out, bail out, bail out!" One suspect was quickly apprehended by a member of the Texas Department of Public Safety. According to CBP Commissioner Rodney Scott, the incident involved "outstanding coordination" among Border Patrol, AMO, HSI, and Texas DPS. The second suspect allegedly carjacked a civilian at gunpoint before being taken into custody. Authorities have not disclosed how many individuals were allegedly being smuggled or their nationalities. The incident occurred near a Speedway gas station at approximately 9:16 a.m., as reported by KFOX14. The suspects are expected to face charges related to human smuggling and evading arrest or detention.
