<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/tag/house/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">House</a> Judiciary Committee ranking member <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/tag/jamie-raskin/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Jamie Raskin</a> (D-MD) is campaigning for Democratic candidates across the ideological spectrum in competitive districts ahead of the midterm elections.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">During the August recess, Raskin has campaigned with over a dozen Democratic candidates, including both progressives and centrists in Republican-leaning areas.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Raskin's extensive campaigning highlights his appeal within a party that has faced ideological divisions. Despite being known for his opposition to former President Donald Trump, Raskin is actively supporting candidates beyond the Democratic base as the party aims to regain the House majority in November.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Recently, Raskin traveled to Michigan to support Democratic Senate nominee Abdul el Sayed and 7th Congressional District nominee William Lawrence, both of whom are considered critical candidates for the party's success in the upcoming elections.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">He also campaigned with Colorado state Rep. Manny Rutinel, who is running against Rep. Gabe Evans (R-CO) in a district that Trump won by 2 points in 2024.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">“As I travel to competitive districts and battleground states across America, I’m meeting formidable Democratic candidates running impressive campaigns to take back Congress and defend the besieged working middle class,” Raskin stated in an interview with the <em>Washington Examiner</em>.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Raskin emphasized that the candidates he supports are generating the “momentum we need to create an invincible big blue wave in November.”</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In addition to supporting progressives, Raskin has also campaigned for centrist Democrats in Republican-dominated areas. He visited Colorado’s 5th Congressional District to support Jessica Killin, who is challenging first-term Rep. Jeff Crank (R-CO) in a seat Trump won by 9 points in 2024. He also campaigned in New York for candidates in Long Island districts that have shifted toward the GOP.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In Michigan, Raskin supported state Sen. Sean McCann, who is attempting to unseat longtime Rep. Bill Huizenga (R-MI) in a district Trump won by 6 points in 2024. He also traveled to Iowa to campaign for state Sen. Sarah Trone Garriott, who is running against Rep. Zach Nunn (R-IA) in a district Trump won by 4 points last election cycle.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Raskin’s increasing role as a national surrogate follows his established profile as a critic of Trump. He served on the Jan. 6 committee, previously led Democrats on the House oversight committee, and currently serves as the top Democrat on the Judiciary Committee.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Should Democrats regain the House, Raskin is expected to play a significant role in investigations related to Trump and his administration.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Raskin’s campaign activities have begun to mirror those of House leadership, despite his lack of an elected leadership position. He has campaigned for various Democrats ahead of the 2025 elections, including now-Govs. Abigail Spanberger (D-VA) and Mikie Sherrill (D-NJ), and has expanded his involvement to races nationwide.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This positions Raskin with a dual responsibility as the November elections approach: aiding Democrats in regaining the House and potentially becoming a key figure in wielding power if they succeed.</p>
