Gatwick Airport Experiences Water Outage Due to Burst Main

Gatwick Airport experienced a water outage following a burst main in Horley, according to SES Water. Passengers at the airport were left without water after the incident, which affected both terminals. SES Water confirmed that it had located the burst main and was working to restore supply. A spokesperson for the airport stated that the issue was under investigation and that water pressure was beginning to return to normal. Flights at the airport remained unaffected by the disruption. Portable toilets were delivered to the site in response to the outage. This incident follows a major supply outage in July, which resulted in long queues for toilets and the closure of restaurants and bars at the airport. Natasha Nzekwe, a passenger scheduled to fly to Amsterdam, expressed frustration over the lack of water, stating, "It's quite frustrating, but everyone seems to be pretty fine." She noted the inability to wash hands in the toilets. Another passenger, Naduni Abeywickrama, traveling from London to Aberdeen, described the situation as "extremely frustrating" and mentioned that it was the second occurrence of such an issue. While toilets in the North Terminal were closed, most toilets in the South Terminal remained operational. Food outlets in the North Terminal continued to serve passengers, albeit with limited seating. Anthony Rochester, head of networks at SES Water, indicated that water supplies had been restored to Gatwick Airport and surrounding areas by re-routing their network. A spokesperson for Gatwick Airport confirmed that toilets remained available throughout the outage and that food and beverage outlets were reopening. They acknowledged the inconvenience caused by the water shortage and thanked passengers for their patience. The airport committed to providing updates as more information became available. Previously, both terminals at Gatwick Airport experienced a loss of running water for several hours due to a power failure at a treatment works in July.
