WNBA Rescinds Technical Foul on Angel Reese, Keeping Her Eligible to Play

Angel Reese received her eighth technical foul of the season during the Atlanta Dream's 101-83 loss to the Portland Fire on August 28, 2026. However, the WNBA later rescinded the foul, reducing her total to seven and allowing her to avoid an automatic one-game suspension. The technical was assessed with 8:45 remaining in the fourth quarter as the Dream trailed 76-61. Reese and Portland guard Carla Leite were involved in a physical play while vying for a rebound, leading to the officials' decision. Dream head coach Karl Smesko expressed his belief that the foul was not warranted and indicated that an appeal would be made prior to the league's decision to rescind the foul. Reese has been under scrutiny for technical fouls, having received her seventh on July 9 against the Storm. The situation mirrors that of fellow All-Star Caitlin Clark, who also had a technical rescinded earlier in August. The loss for the Dream dropped their record to 25-14, while the Fire improved to 16-23. In the game, Reese recorded 16 points, 16 rebounds, and six assists, while Rhyne Howard led the Dream with 26 points. Leite and Emily Engstler contributed significantly for the Fire, each scoring 26 and 25 points, respectively.
