Democratic Candidate Chris Rabb Defends Hasan Piker Amid Party Backlash

<p>Pennsylvania state Representative Chris Rabb, a Democratic candidate, expressed strong support for streamer Hasan Piker on Thursday, amid criticism from some Democrats distancing themselves from Piker due to his controversial remarks. Piker has previously suggested that the U.S. deserved the September 11, 2001, terror attacks.</p><p>Rabb, who is running in a heavily Democratic district, tweeted, "This is what the institutionalists are focusing their efforts on now: Disavowing Hasan Piker." He further criticized the focus on Piker instead of other issues, stating, "Not White Christian nationalists? Not the broligarchs? Not the AI overlords? Nope, the guy encouraging young people to use their collective political power for good. F--- that noise."</p><p>Rabb won a primary contest that included state Senator Sharif Street, who was endorsed by several mainstream Democrats. He had previously appeared with Piker at an event in West Philadelphia, acknowledging the potential backlash he might face for his association with Piker.</p><p>Rabb's defense of Piker contrasts with the views of several prominent Democrats who have condemned Piker's comments. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries referred to Piker's remarks about American Jews as "dangerous and anti-Semitic." In a recent interview, Jeffries stated, "I’ve just addressed Hasan Piker’s comments as it relates to the Jewish community as forcefully as I can, and I will continue to do that."</p><p>Representative Josh Gottheimer called for a vote on a bipartisan resolution to condemn Piker, stating that Piker's comments about Jewish Americans are blatantly anti-Semitic. Gottheimer added, "Telling millions of followers that Jewish Americans are bringing violence on themselves is blatantly antisemitic and one of the oldest tropes in the book."</p><p>Representative Brad Schneider also criticized Piker, accusing him of victim-blaming American Jews and labeling him as an "unapologetic antisemite." Schneider warned that Democrats risk losing credibility if they condemn controversial figures on the right while supporting those who espouse hate on their own side.</p><p>Rabb is set to face independent candidate Dennis Mahoney in the upcoming November election in Pennsylvania’s 3rd Congressional District, where he is favored to succeed retiring Representative Dwight Evans.</p>
