House Republicans Request Investigation Into Journalist Attending Ayatollah's Funeral

<p>A group of three House Republicans has requested that the Trump administration investigate Max Blumenthal, editor of The Grayzone, following his attendance at the funeral of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in Iran.</p><p>Representative Randy Fine (R-FL) submitted the request on Friday to Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Attorney General Todd Blanche, co-signed by Representatives Keith Self (R-TX) and Randy Weber (R-TX), according to a letter obtained by Laura Loomer. This request follows an earlier one made in July, which sought scrutiny of activists Calla Walsh, Jackson Hinkle, and Christopher Helali for attending the same funeral, which the lawmakers characterized as an event organized by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, a U.S.-designated Foreign Terrorist Organization.</p><p>The letter alleges that Blumenthal has used journalism as a means to disseminate propaganda that benefits adversaries of the United States, referencing his previous comments regarding the October 7 attacks. The letter claims he denied the atrocities of the attacks and described some details as "manufactured" by the Israeli government, along with a reporting trip to Iran in 2025. The letter concludes by calling for an investigation into Blumenthal to ensure the safety of the American public.</p><p>Loomer's post noted that the letter was issued two days after Rubio announced State Department sanctions on "violent far-left terrorist groups," referencing a Bush-era counterterrorism executive order. A State Department press release accompanying those sanctions indicated that the actions target "terrorists, terrorist organizations, leaders and officials of terrorist groups, and those providing support to terrorists or acts of terrorism," framing the move as part of a broader effort against "transnational far-left terrorism."</p><p>As of now, Blumenthal has not publicly responded to the letter and did not reply to a request for comment from the Daily Wire. The State Department and Justice Department have not indicated whether they will act on the lawmakers' request, and neither agency responded immediately to inquiries from the Daily Wire.</p><p>Loomer, who has been monitoring reporters' attendance at the funeral, suggested that the letter could signify "the beginning of the end" for Blumenthal and The Grayzone.</p>
