Parolee Arrested After Allegedly Killing Two During Robbery Spree in NYC

<p>A parolee accused of leaving two New Yorkers dead in a 48-hour robbery spree was taken into custody on August 29, 2026, after an FBI-backed manhunt, according to police.</p><p>Jesus Acosta, 31, was arrested Friday morning after the FBI offered a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to his location and apprehension.</p><p>The NYPD acknowledged the efforts of law enforcement and the public in locating him in a social media post.</p><p>Acosta was sought in connection with two deadly shootings that occurred days apart, including a Bronx deli robbery early on August 25, police previously stated.</p><p>The gunman approached a 33-year-old man at approximately 12:16 a.m. inside 149 Grill & Deli at 143 E. 149th St. and opened fire, striking him multiple times in the chest. The suspect then allegedly took an undisclosed amount of cash from behind the register and fled.</p><p>The 33-year-old victim was taken to Lincoln Hospital in stable condition but later died from his injuries. A fundraiser created by the victim’s sister identified him as Tayvon Shuler, known to loved ones as "Plucky."</p><p>The second shooting occurred shortly after midnight on August 27 at American Best Wings & Pizza at 842 Rockaway Ave. in Brownsville, Brooklyn. Police responding to a 911 call found a 44-year-old man shot in the head and a 39-year-old man shot in the leg.</p><p>The 44-year-old was pronounced dead at a hospital, while the surviving victim was listed in stable condition, according to police.</p><p>A GoFundMe identified the slain restaurant worker as MD Yousuf, a husband and father of two. The fundraiser stated that Yousuf’s family is trying to raise money to send his body back to Bangladesh for burial, cover funeral expenses, and support his wife and daughters, ages 12 and 3.</p><p>Shuler’s sister, Tanasha Neal, mentioned in a public Facebook post that her "little brother was murdered" on August 25. She expressed her struggle to cope with the loss and set up a fundraiser for his memorial service.</p><p>Before Acosta's arrest, the NYPD released surveillance images and described him as having "Bronx" tattooed on his hand and "Bobby" tattooed on his left forearm. He was described as 5 feet, 11 inches tall and about 175 pounds, with short brown hair and brown eyes.</p><p>Acosta had been on parole since April after serving 10 years in state prison for assault and criminal weapon possession, according to state prison records.</p><p>In a statement to Fox 5 New York, United Bodegas of America thanked the NYPD for taking Acosta into custody but criticized the justice system regarding his prior record. They expressed relief that he is no longer on the streets but outrage that someone with 13 prior arrests was released on parole after serving approximately 10 years for assault and illegal gun possession.</p><p>Spokesman Fernando Mateo emphasized the need for changes to curb gun violence and improve bodega safety, urging Governor Hochul to support longer prison sentences for illegal gun possession and for Mayor Mamdani to reinstate bodega panic buttons.</p><p>The NYPD has not released additional details about Acosta’s arrest, including where he was taken into custody or the specific charges he faces.</p><p>Fox News Digital reached out to the NYPD and United Bodegas of America for further comment.</p>
