Dolphins Trade Quarterback Quinn Ewers to Jaguars

Quinn Ewers has been traded from the Miami Dolphins to the Jacksonville Jaguars, as announced by both teams on Saturday. In exchange, the Dolphins received a sixth-round pick in the 2028 NFL Draft. Ewers, who played in four games last season and started three, recorded 622 passing yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions during his rookie year. Initially a third-string quarterback, Ewers made his NFL debut in a Week 7 loss to the Cleveland Browns and was named the starter in Week 16 after Tua Tagovailoa was benched. The Dolphins had a 1-2 record in games he started, with his only victory occurring in Week 17 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he completed 14 of 22 passes for 172 yards and two touchdowns. Ewers previously played as a three-year starter at Texas, leading the Longhorns to consecutive College Football Playoff semifinals in 2023 and 2024 and earning All-Conference honors. Despite a strong spring, Ewers struggled in the preseason, completing only one of eight passes in his only game, which he attributed to a groin injury. The Jaguars' quarterback situation may change with Ewers' addition, particularly if they decide to release current backup Nick Mullens, which would save them $1.2 million but incur $1.3 million in dead cap space. Mullens, 31, has played in parts of five games in 2025 as a backup to Trevor Lawrence.
