Explosion at NYCHA complex in Crown Heights results in one death, linked to lithium-ion battery

An explosion and fire occurred at a NYCHA complex in Crown Heights on Friday night, resulting in one man's death, according to police and fire officials. The incident took place around 7 p.m. on the 12th floor of Albany Houses near Prospect Place, prompting the response of over 120 fire and EMS personnel. Firefighters managed to extinguish the flames by 8 p.m. Reports indicate that a lithium-ion battery may be connected to the fire, although the FDNY has not confirmed this connection. An 18-year-old man was transported to One Brooklyn Health-Interfaith Medical Center with serious, life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead. The victim has not been identified, and authorities are investigating the cause of the explosion. A neighbor of the victim's family expressed condolences, stating they had spoken with the victim's mother recently about their children and described the situation as tremendous.
