Masked Israeli Settlers Attack Palestinian Woman and NBC News Team in West Bank

On August 29, 2026, a Palestinian woman and members of an NBC News team were attacked by masked Israeli settlers in the Israeli-occupied West Bank. The incident occurred in the Palestinian town of Jalud, near Nablus, while the NBC team was interviewing Aida Ahmed Abdullah and her family. Abdullah reported that they had been driven from their home by Israeli settlers. As the team walked down a hill toward the house, a gray car with Israeli license plates approached in reverse. A masked man in a blue tracksuit was seen leaning out of the rear passenger window. When the vehicle stopped, at least four men in dark clothing exited and assaulted Abdullah and the crew with sticks and rocks. NBC News international correspondent Matt Bradley stated that he was hit twice in the arm and received treatment at a nearby clinic. Abdullah, 51, was taken for medical care by the Red Crescent, and her injuries were reported as not life-threatening. Her husband, Mahmoud Toubasi, noted that her condition had improved but she remained hospitalized. Two other members of the NBC News team, a cameraman and a producer, were also injured during the attack. Producer Lawahez Jabari described how the car rushed up the hill before the occupants assaulted the team and damaged their equipment. Camera operator Khaldoon Eid expressed surprise that the attack occurred in a populated area. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and spokesman Doron Spielman condemned the violence against Abdullah and the NBC News crew, along with other incidents involving masked Israeli settlers that day. Netanyahu characterized the actions as criminal and requested that security forces apprehend the perpetrators. Israeli security forces reported that they received information about rioters in the area and that violent clashes had occurred. They stated that their operations aimed to protect residents and restore order. The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs reported that between January 1 and July 24, 2026, Israeli forces or settlers killed 76 Palestinians, while three Israelis were killed during the same period. The West Bank, captured in the 1967 Middle East war, is home to approximately 3 million Palestinians and 500,000 Israeli settlers. The recent increase in violence has raised concerns about the Israeli military's response to armed groups and attacks on journalists in the region.
