Opposition to Datacenters Unites Communities in Indiana

<p>Opposition to datacenters is bringing together residents in Indiana, highlighting concerns over local decision-making power. Bryce Gustafson, a lead organizer with Citizens Action Coalition (CAC), a consumer and environmental organization, has been canvassing in Indiana for over a decade. He noted a notable sense of unity among residents during a recent festival in Monrovia, Indiana, where he discussed a proposed 550-acre Google datacenter project.</p><p>Gustafson reported that out of 50 people he spoke with, none supported the datacenter. He mentioned that several individuals expressed their discontent with political leaders, including former President Trump, regarding their support for such projects. “I had 50 people I talked to,” Gustafson stated. “Nobody wanted that datacenter in their community. And at least a half a dozen people came up to me to say, ‘Hey, I voted for Trump. What the heck’s he doing, supporting these things?’”</p>
