Bear Enters Colorado Home and Consumes Food

<p>A Colorado family discovered a bear in their kitchen on July 21, 2026, when they woke up to find it eating breakfast. Security camera footage shows the bear entering the kitchen and grabbing food.</p><p>Nerissa England, a family member, reported that she heard a noise while getting ready in the morning and checked on her children, aged 8, 6, and 3, who were playing upstairs. She stated, "I assumed it was a picture that had fallen off the wall, so my curious 8-year-old daughter, Zara Lee, went downstairs to investigate, and my husband followed to grab coffee." Upon entering the kitchen, they found the bear eating trash.</p><p>The bear entered the home through an open back door, which had been left ajar to allow for a breeze during hot weather. According to England, the bear consumed some Flintstones vitamins left on a table, dragged a trash can outside, and rummaged through it near the kitchen door.</p><p>Zara Lee and her father managed to scare the bear away by opening the door and making noise. England mentioned, "We will be keeping the door shut for a while until the local bears get the food they need and go into hibernation!" </p><p>Reports indicate that bears have been entering homes across the United States in increasing numbers due to a dry winter that has diminished their natural food sources, including plants, grasses, berries, and nuts. The bears' search for food has resulted in a rise in human-bear interactions, leading to numerous bear deaths in some states as they are euthanized, run over, or shot.</p>
