General Dan Caine, the chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, stated that there are no plans to deploy troops to polling places during the November midterm elections. This statement comes in response to concerns raised by Senator Elissa Slotkin regarding the potential for the Trump administration to use military personnel at election sites.
In a letter obtained by the Guardian and first reported by the Associated Press, General Caine confirmed that the Joint Force has no plans to send Federal military personnel or Federalized members of the National Guard to polling places during the 2026 elections. He also noted that there are no plans to use such personnel to seize ballots, voting machines, or other election-related materials.
