A California father, Sergio Galves Perez, 38, is accused of impregnating his 14-year-old daughter, leading to the discovery of their newborn baby, named Angelito, found dead along a remote road near Moss Landing on August 1. The newborn was located with his umbilical cord still attached and signs of trauma, according to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office. The 14-year-old has been accused of murdering her baby, although details regarding the basis for this allegation have not been disclosed.
Authorities confirmed that Perez is the biological father of both the teen and the deceased infant. He is currently wanted for incest and lewd acts on a minor. Monterey County Sheriff Tina Nieto expressed concern for the teen's safety, stating, "I believe the 14-year-old might be in danger. That’s my gut feeling as a sheriff. She’s 14, for God’s sake. She’s 14. She’s a victim, too, even though she’s a suspect."
Sheriff Nieto emphasized the need to locate the girl to ensure her safety and to hear her account of the events. Investigators received a significant lead when Flock cameras identified a vehicle linked to the case, which was registered to Perez and his wife, Ofelia Garcia Ortega. Ortega has been arrested and charged with child endangerment.
Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Eric Bixler noted the importance of the camera information in advancing the investigation, stating, "Without that information we received from that camera, we may have never solved that case." Perez remains at large as authorities continue their search for him and his daughter.
