Bobcat Found Inside Washington Home After Resident Reports Possible Burglary

<p>A Washington homeowner who heard banging inside their house called 911 to report a possible burglary. Responding officers discovered that the source of the noise was a bobcat perched at the top of the stairs.</p><p>The incident occurred last week in Kirkland's Moss Bay neighborhood, where police were able to contain the wild animal before wildlife officials returned it to its natural habitat.</p><p>No injuries were reported to the homeowner, responding officers, or the bobcat, according to the Kirkland Police Department.</p><p>Police responded to the report after the resident indicated they heard banging inside the home. Upon arrival, officers found the bobcat inside.</p><p>Authorities used a drone to monitor the bobcat's movements within the home, allowing officers to maintain a safe distance and coordinate their response.</p><p>Video released by Kirkland police shows the bobcat growling while positioned at the top of the staircase.</p><p>The bobcat was safely contained in an isolated room until the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife arrived.</p><p>After being sedated, the bobcat was later released near Forbes Creek, close to its original habitat, police stated.</p><p>Police believe the bobcat entered the home by climbing a tree and jumping through an open window, possibly after being attracted by the homeowner's cat.</p><p>The resident's cat was later found unharmed.</p><p>Officials advised residents to avoid approaching or feeding bobcats and to give the animals plenty of space if encountered. The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife also recommends that residents keep pets indoors, especially between dusk and dawn, and secure small livestock and poultry.</p>
