A homeowner in Kirkland, Washington, reported hearing banging noises inside their house, prompting a 911 call about a potential burglary. Upon arrival, police discovered that the source of the noise was a bobcat located at the top of the stairs. The incident occurred last week in the Moss Bay neighborhood. Police managed to contain the bobcat before wildlife officials relocated it to its natural habitat. No injuries were reported for the homeowner, the officers, or the bobcat, according to the Kirkland Police Department.
The police responded to the call regarding the possible burglary after the resident reported the strange noises. Upon their arrival, they found the bobcat inside the home. Authorities utilized a drone to track the bobcat's movements, allowing officers to maintain a safe distance while coordinating their response. Video footage released by the Kirkland police showed the bobcat growling while sitting atop the staircase.
The bobcat was safely confined to a separate room until the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife arrived. After being sedated, the bobcat was released near Forbes Creek, close to the area where it was initially found. Police believe the bobcat entered the house by climbing a tree and jumping through an open window, possibly attracted by the homeowner's cat, which was later found unharmed. Officials advised residents not to approach or feed bobcats and to maintain a safe distance if encountered. Additionally, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife recommends keeping pets indoors, especially during dusk and dawn, and securing small livestock and poultry.
