James Carville Critiques Hasan Piker and Democratic Socialists of America

<p>Democratic strategist James Carville criticized left-wing streamer <a href="https://foxnews.com/category/person/hasan-piker" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Hasan Piker</a> on September 2, 2026, calling him an "idiot" and stating that he cannot answer for Piker’s group of "left-wing idiots."</p><p>Piker, who identifies as a socialist streamer and campaigned with Democratic Michigan U.S. Senate nominee <a href="https://foxnews.com/category/politics/abdul-el-sayed" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Abdul El-Sayed</a>, has become a prominent voice among democratic socialists.</p><p>Carville stated on "<a href="https://www.foxnews.com/shows/the-story" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">The Story</a>": "There's two things that I know about Hasan Piker. One, he's an idiot, and two, he's not a Democrat. So, I don't answer for idiots, and I don't answer for people who are not Democrats."</p><p>Previously, Carville mentioned that he would leave the Democratic Party if Piker became a leading voice within it, claiming that an "overwhelming majority" of Democrats share his view.</p><p>Carville explained, "I understand that I'm a Democrat. I'm part of a big coalition, a big tent, and we all have an admission policy. But thank God Hasan Piker doesn't want in our frat, because we don't want him."</p><p>Piker, who faced backlash for a comment made during a stream in 2019, expressed his thoughts on Carville's remarks, stating, "We got <a href="https://foxnews.com/category/person/john-fetterman" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">John Fetterman</a>, James Carville, fantasizing about leaving the party — I'm like, you're sweetening the deal."</p><p>Carville also criticized the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), suggesting that the organization should remove "Democratic" from its name. He argued that the DSA benefits from its association with the Democratic Party while holding values that do not align with it.</p><p>Carville stated, "What I would tell a Democratic socialist — ‘If you hate the Democratic brand so much, why use our words? Go call yourself something else. Call yourself the Socialists of America.’"</p><p>He further elaborated that the DSA’s positions, including <a href="https://foxnews.com/media/michigan-senate-hopeful-abdul-el-sayed-fires-back-cnn-choosing-fixate-defund-police-comments" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">defunding the police</a>, do not represent the Democratic Party. He emphasized, "Don't put the first word in your title 'Democratic' because… that's our party. That's the party of civil rights. That's the party of women's rights. That's the party of balanced budget. That is the party of prosperity."</p><p>Carville concluded by urging the DSA to create its own identity, stating, "Don’t use our name. Make up your own name."</p><p>Carville has previously warned that the influence of democratic socialists is damaging the Democratic Party's brand.</p>
