A Maryland woman, Nora Rowland, has alleged that the nurse who provided care for her father, Robert Rowland, transferred the deed to his South Carolina home for $5 shortly before his death. According to reports, Robert Rowland, 75, who lived in Conway, was receiving care from nurse Sarah Smalls in March 2024 before being moved to a senior living facility. Nora Rowland, residing in Baltimore, became concerned about the reduced communication with her father and traveled approximately 460 miles to visit him on Father's Day in June 2024.
Upon arrival, she was informed by Smalls that her father had died. Rowland expressed her shock and confusion, stating that she had to enter the home through a window, where she found the interior had been altered significantly. Court documents indicate that Smalls was granted power of attorney weeks after Robert Rowland's relocation to the care facility. A quitclaim deed dated April 17 transferred the property to Smalls for $5, and bank statements reportedly showed funds wired to her.
Nora Rowland was arrested on trespassing charges during the incident, which were later dismissed. She expressed her distress over the situation, highlighting the vulnerability of elderly individuals in such circumstances.
