Golfer Tiger Woods has entered a plea agreement for a reckless driving charge following a rollover crash in March near his home in Florida. Woods appeared in a Martin County courtroom on Wednesday and accepted a reduced charge after initially being charged with driving under the influence (DUI). As part of the plea agreement, a judge ordered his driving license to be suspended for five years.
Woods, 50, remained mostly silent during the hearing and was seen looking back at the courtroom gallery while seated at the defense table. He arrived at the courthouse with his girlfriend, Vanessa Trump, who is the former daughter-in-law of President Donald Trump.
Previously, Woods had pleaded not guilty to the DUI charge. He was arrested after his SUV collided with a truck and rolled over on a residential road in Jupiter Island. According to a sheriff’s report, deputies found two pain pills in his pocket, and he exhibited signs of impairment. Although a breathalyzer test returned negative results, Woods refused to take a urine test.
Neither Woods nor the other driver sustained injuries in the crash, but his Land Rover caused $5,000 in damages to the truck, as reported by police. Woods informed a deputy that he was distracted by his phone and changing the radio station when the accident occurred.
Woods is a prominent figure in golf, but his career has faced challenges due to multiple surgeries, car accidents, and issues with pain medication. He has been involved in four crashes over the years, taking leaves from the golf tour after incidents in 2009 and the most recent crash. He has not yet returned to tournament play following the latest incident.
According to court records, Woods sought treatment at an inpatient facility after leaving the United States. His first public appearance after returning from treatment was on June 23, when he introduced the PGA Tour’s plans to revamp its schedule for 2028. He continues to serve as chairman of the tour’s Future Competition Committee but did not take questions during that appearance.
