These comments were made during a 2020 Zoom call with Sierra Club activists and are now receiving renewed attention as Talarico competes against Republican nominee Ken Paxton in a critical Senate race.</p><p>The remarks were reported by CNN and have been highlighted by the Lone Star Liberty PAC and the Senate Leadership Fund, both of which support Paxton. During the call, Talarico stated that the U.S. is facing a "multi-faceted threat" involving climate, economic, and social crises. He emphasized the connection between climate change, white supremacy, and capitalism, asserting that understanding these systems is essential for addressing them.</p><p>Talarico also predicted that Texas' fossil fuel industry would not endure, comparing it to being the leader in cassette tapes in the 1980s. His campaign spokesperson, J.T. Ennis, stated that Talarico recognizes issues such as racism and a billionaire-controlled economy as problems that need to be addressed. Ennis noted that Talarico has acknowledged missing the mark on some past statements while criticizing Paxton for his comments regarding the Uvalde school shooting and Texas' abortion ban.</p><p>The Talarico campaign highlighted that he has voted in support of the oil industry and aims to maintain Texas' energy dominance. Talarico, a former middle school teacher, won the Democratic primary against Rep.
