Yankees' Ben Rice injures photographer with foul ball during game

ANAHEIM, Calif. — The Yankees-Angels game was delayed in the top of the sixth inning on Wednesday night after Ben Rice hit a foul ball into the first base camera well, striking a photographer in the head. The Yankees medical staff, including director of sports medicine and rehab Mike Schuck, attended to the photographer, while head trainer Tim Lentych called for a medical cart as the crowd reacted to the incident. After a delay of approximately 10 minutes, the photographer was able to walk under his own power, wearing a neck brace, to the medical cart, where Rice was present to shake his hand before he was taken away. The ball came off Rice’s bat at a speed of 79.5 mph, described as a low line drive that went through the far opening to the stairs in the Yankees dugout. Following the incident, Angels pitcher Reid Detmers threw a few warmup pitches before the game resumed, with Rice ultimately flying out to center field on the ninth pitch of his at-bat.
