Carlos Queiroz Reappointed as Ghana Coach After Previous Resignation

Carlos Queiroz has been reappointed as the head coach of the Ghana national football team for an indeterminate period, two months after stepping down following the team's FIFA World Cup campaign. The Ghana Football Association (GFA) announced on Wednesday that the 73-year-old Portuguese coach will begin his new coaching mandate with the upcoming international window. The GFA stated that Queiroz's extensive international experience, technical expertise, and knowledge of the Black Stars make him well-suited to lead the team into this next chapter. Queiroz previously guided Ghana to the round of 32 at the World Cup, despite having only a couple of months to prepare the team for the tournament. Ghana was left without a coach 72 days before the World Cup kickoff after parting ways with Otto Addo following friendly defeats to Austria and Germany in March. Ghana is scheduled to play home and away group matches against Ivory Coast in qualifying for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations during the next international window, which runs from September 21 to October 6. Queiroz has a history of coaching at the World Cup, having led Portugal to the round of 16 in 2010 and coached Iran in the last three editions of the tournament, achieving three wins in 13 matches. Born in Mozambique, Queiroz has also held coaching positions with Egypt, Japan, Colombia, and South Africa, and previously managed Portugal in the early 1990s.
