Van Driven Wrong Way During Police Chase on A20

A van was driven the wrong way down the A20 during a high-speed police chase that spanned 15 miles on Sunday. Footage shows a white Citroën swerving between lanes as drivers attempted to avoid a collision. The incident occurred around 2:55 PM when a man allegedly smashed a window and stole the van from a property in Swanscombe. Police later located the vehicle in Swanley, where it failed to stop and continued into London. The Metropolitan Police took over the pursuit, and the driver was detained after police made tactical contact with the vehicle on Mottingham Road in Bromley. One officer sustained a hand injury during the incident but was later discharged from the hospital. The van was reportedly suspended in the air after the crash, surrounded by shards of glass. At least eight police vehicles responded to the scene. The driver, Barney McGinley, 33, has been charged with several offenses, including dangerous driving and driving without insurance. He appeared in Croydon Magistrates' Court on Tuesday and was remanded in custody. This incident follows a recent tragedy in which two police officers were killed in a separate crash involving a vehicle traveling the wrong way on the A66 near Middlesbrough.
