In response to a question about whether Jackson's personal life would be a topic in the campaign, Collins stated, "Well, I'm not going to bring up the fact that the mother of his two children is his second cousin. I don’t know whether people know that or not." Justin Davis, public affairs director for the National Rifle Association, expressed anticipation for the upcoming debates.</p><p>Reports about Jackson's relationship with his second cousin first emerged in July, when The Maine Wire highlighted that Jackson and his partner share the same great-grandparents. Conservative commentator Greg Price remarked on the difficulties Democrats face in finding suitable candidates.</p><p>Jackson's personal history includes a 1988 police report alleging he assaulted a man at a bar, which he does not dispute, but he denies any allegations of domestic violence. Collins commented on the police report, stating that Jackson needs to respond to the allegations and emphasized the importance of vetting candidates.</p><p>During her interview, Collins also noted that Jackson might not be an easier opponent than Graham Platner, who previously withdrew from the race amid allegations.
