Vice President JD Vance to Attend 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony in New York City

<p>Vice President JD Vance stated on Thursday that he is "looking forward" to meeting with former President Joe Biden during his visit to New York City next week for the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks.</p><p>Vance expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming meeting, saying, "I'm really looking forward to hanging out with Joe Biden. I'm sure that we'll have many, many intense intellectual conversations and, you know, it'll be great. We'll have a great time with Joe Biden and the other presidents," while hosting the first White House press briefing after former press secretary Karoline Leavitt's departure in August.</p><p>During the 9/11 remembrance ceremony, Vance will be joined by former Presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush, and Bill Clinton, as well as former first ladies Hillary Clinton and Laura Bush.</p><p>The last known occasion when Vance and Biden were in the same location was at President Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20, 2025, in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda.</p><p>Vance explained the decision for him to attend the New York ceremony while President Biden remains in Washington, D.C., to commemorate the events at the Pentagon, which was also a significant site during the 9/11 attacks.</p><p>Trump is expected to attend a ceremony at the Pentagon, while other administration officials will represent the White House in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, marking all three locations affected by the attacks. Vance noted that there was no indication that Trump was remaining in the capital due to security concerns in New York City.</p><p>Vance remarked on the honor of attending the ceremony, stating, "I will say that as much as it's tragic and it was a terrible day, I am looking forward to it because it's such an amazing honor to be able to get to go to New York and to share in that moment."</p><p>He emphasized the importance of parents showing their children the names of those who were killed, recalling his own experience with his family during the 2024 campaign. Vance encouraged younger Americans, who may not remember the day, to engage with the commemorative events, saying, "It's one of the most amazing experiences of my life, and I encourage every American, particularly the people who are young enough to not really remember that day, just to tune in for a couple of hours and see what it meant."</p><p>Vance concluded by stating that the tragic day fosters a "sense of commonality and common purpose" for Americans to unite.</p>
