Felix Auger-Aliassime loses to Karen Khachanov at US Open after health issues

Felix Auger-Aliassime's participation in the U.S. Open ended on Thursday after he lost to unseeded Karen Khachanov. Auger-Aliassime, the No. 3 seed, won the first set in a tiebreak, 7-6 (5), but Khachanov won the next three sets with scores of 3-6, 2-6, and 3-6. Auger-Aliassime reported feeling unwell during the match, stating that he experienced dizziness and visual disturbances. "After a set and a half, I just couldn’t feel well and was dizzy and seeing spots and, yeah, couldn’t recover. I thought maybe it would pass, but it didn’t," he said. He described the physical issue as unprecedented for him, noting he had not experienced any symptoms in the days leading up to the match. Auger-Aliassime indicated he would undergo tests to determine the cause of his condition. During the match, Khachanov broke Auger-Aliassime's serve seven times and saved seven of nine break points. Auger-Aliassime acknowledged Khachanov's skills, stating, "If I cannot move, we’re not talking about tennis here." He considered retiring during the match but decided to continue playing. Khachanov's victory marked his second top-10 win at a Grand Slam, four years after reaching the U.S. Open semifinals in 2022.
