Alexander Zverev advances to third round of US Open after five-set match

Alexander Zverev advanced to the third round of the U.S. Open after defeating Frenchman Quentin Halys 6-4, 4-6, 7-6(3), 6-7(3), 6-3 in a match that extended into the early hours of Friday morning at Arthur Ashe Stadium. Zverev, the top seed and a former French Open champion, had previously faced a tough match against Lorenzo Sonego in the first round. In the match against Halys, Zverev took the first set with a single break but faced challenges as Halys leveled the match in the second set. Zverev experienced frustration during the third set but managed to recover from a 4-1 deficit to win the set in a tiebreak. After dropping the fourth set, Zverev regained his composure in the final set, establishing a 4-2 lead and ultimately winning the match. He will face 25th seed Alejandro Tabilo in the next round.
