Andrew Tate has been indicted in Romania on charges including sex with a minor, trafficking, and money laundering, as announced by Romanian prosecutors on September 1, 2026. Tate, 39, and his brother Tristan Tate, 38, are currently detained in Miami, Florida, while contesting extradition to the UK for alleged offenses occurring between 2010 and 2017.
Tristan Tate faces charges of complicity in the investigation led by Romania’s Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism. Prosecutors allege that Andrew Tate recruited a 15-year-old girl for sexual exploitation in the UK and Romania from 2012 to December 2021, using coercion and emotional manipulation.
The indictment claims that Tate forced the girl to create sexually explicit content and engage in video chat activities. Tristan Tate is accused of supporting his brother's actions by managing the girl's video chat accounts and allegedly using physical aggression against her.
The brothers are said to have earned over $1.25 million from their alleged criminal activities. Additionally, Andrew Tate is accused of having sexual relations with another 15-year-old at two Romanian properties between December 2020 and mid-2021. The indictment states that the brothers used money from these activities to purchase four cars valued at a combined $1.25 million, which investigators seek to confiscate.
The Tates have been residing in Romania since 2016 and are under investigation for human trafficking, rape, forming an organized criminal group, and money laundering. Their attorney, Eugen Constantin Vidineac, stated that the brothers continue to reject the allegations and emphasized that the new indictment does not determine guilt. He noted that the previous indictment faced judicial scrutiny and was halted due to significant irregularities.
Vidineac has requested the brothers be released on bail, citing concerns that their detention could adversely affect their defense. He expressed that the lack of access to confidential communication with his clients could hinder their ability to prepare for the proceedings.
During a Miami court appearance, Andrew Tate expressed concerns about facing an unfair life sentence in Eastern Europe, while Tristan Tate stated he cannot prove his innocence while incarcerated. The brothers face a total of 59 charges in the UK, with Andrew Tate specifically facing 42 charges involving seven victims, including rape and facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation. In July, he received 19 additional charges related to indecent images of a child and extreme pornography.
