Reform UK Officials Resign Amid New Funding Allegations

Two officials from Britain’s Reform UK have resigned following the airing of an investigative documentary that alleges the party arranged for an overseas company to fund polling. The officials, James Orr and Dan Jukes, announced their resignations on Friday, coinciding with the party's annual conference. The documentary by Channel 4 News claims that the officials breached political donation rules by facilitating polling payments from abroad. In the footage, Jukes appears to advise an undercover reporter on how to circumvent electoral laws regarding foreign donations. Party leader Nigel Farage, present during the conversation, stated that everything was 'above board' but acknowledged that 'entrapped conversations don’t look good,' prompting the party to initiate an internal investigation. The Metropolitan Police confirmed they are aware of media reports concerning potential breaches of the Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act 2000 related to political donations. The Labour Party and the Liberal Democrats have reported the allegations to the police, which Reform initially dismissed as a 'hoax.' Farage responded by accusing rival parties of misconduct in political funding. The party has faced scrutiny over various funding scandals, including a recent revelation of a £5 million personal gift to Farage from cryptocurrency billionaire Christopher Harborne, who has also donated over £25 million to Reform. Investigations into Harborne's donations are ongoing, particularly concerning his cryptocurrency Tether, which has been associated with illicit activities. Farage previously made headlines by resigning his parliamentary seat to trigger a by-election, where he portrayed himself as opposing the establishment, winning despite significant opposition from other candidates.
