Body of Uganda's Youngest Traditional King Returned Amid Succession Dispute

The body of King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, the world's youngest reigning monarch, has been returned to Uganda following his death in the United States at the age of 34 due to cancer. President Yoweri Museveni was among those who gathered at Entebbe airport to pay respects. The king, who ruled over more than two million people, will be buried next Saturday, coinciding with the anniversary of his coronation. His death has sparked a dispute regarding succession, as he was not officially married but reportedly left behind a young son. The Tooro kingdom has begun a nine-day mourning period, and a special tribute was held in parliament, where he was remembered for his contributions to education and health. The Ugandan government has urged the public to refrain from speculation about the succession. Culture Minister Henry Tumukunde emphasized the importance of relying on official information regarding the royal family's matters. The king's body will lie in state at Karuziika Palace, where public mourning will take place before the burial at the Karambi Royal Tombs.
