Former Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin was arrested on September 3, 2026, in Paris, Kentucky, by the Bourbon County Sheriff's Office due to an outstanding bench warrant. Bevin was on the set of a Christmas movie being filmed at a horse farm estate when he was taken into custody. According to Jessica Mohr, the owner of the property, Bevin was playing the role of a "featured extra" in the film.
Sheriff Tony Asbury stated that they received a tip regarding Bevin's participation in the film project and verified the information before making the arrest. Bevin was cooperative during the arrest and was booked into the Louisville Metro Detention Center, where he faced charges related to resistance to a court order.
The bench warrant against Bevin was issued by Jefferson Family Court Judge Angela Johnson after he failed to provide required financial documents in his divorce and child support case. Bevin had previously been found in contempt of court and had received two arrest warrants over the summer. The first warrant was rescinded after he paid a fine for missing a May court hearing, but the second warrant remained due to his failure to comply with court orders.
In June, Judge Johnson sentenced Bevin to 60 days in jail and a $500 fine. He did not appear at a subsequent court hearing on July 28, where his ex-wife and son testified. His son is seeking child support, alleging that he was abandoned in a facility for troubled youth in Jamaica. Bevin served as governor from 2015 to 2019, losing his reelection bid to current Democratic Governor Andy Beshear.
