Rep. Comer discusses Sen. McConnell's potential return to Senate

<p>Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., stated on Thursday that he has been in contact with Sen. Mitch McConnell's staff, who indicated that the goal is for McConnell to return to the Senate later this month. </p><p>"I expect that. I sure hope so," Comer said when asked if McConnell was expected to join his Senate colleagues on September 14. </p><p>Comer mentioned that he had spoken with McConnell's staff, who expressed their aim for McConnell to be present when the Senate reconvenes. </p><p>Fox News Digital reached out to McConnell's office on Friday. </p><p>Senators are scheduled to return to work in Washington, D.C., on September 14. </p><p>"Other than pro forma sessions on Tuesday, September 8, at 1:15 p.m. and Thursday, September 10, at 3:00 p.m., the Senate stands adjourned until 3:00 p.m. on Monday, September 14. There is one vote that evening at 5:30 p.m.," according to the U.S. Senate Press Gallery website. </p><p>McConnell, 84, suffered a fall in June. In a statement released nearly a month ago, the lawmaker noted that he had been discharged from a rehabilitation center. </p><p>The lawmaker, who has served in the Senate since 1985, is not seeking re-election this year.</p>
