Oklahoma man dies in car accident involving feral hogs

Roger Gregory Cummings, 63, died in a car accident involving a pack of feral hogs in Stephens County, Oklahoma, late Wednesday night. Cummings collided with the hogs while driving, causing him to swerve into a ditch and hit a fence. According to a collision report, as he attempted to steer his vehicle, it rolled along the fence, resulting in him being thrown from the car. The vehicle then rolled onto its side and came to a stop, crushing him underneath. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported that Cummings was not wearing a seatbelt at the time and was pronounced dead at the scene. Cummings had recently celebrated his 40th wedding anniversary and retirement from Marlow Lumber Company, where he worked for over 40 years. Barbara Johnson, the owner of Marlow Lumber Company, expressed her shock and sadness at the news, stating that Cummings was considered part of the family. She noted that while encounters with wildlife are common in the area, fatalities from such incidents are rare. According to the Oklahoma Wildlife Department, feral swine have been detected in 70 of the state's 77 counties and are most active at night.
