House Democrats Plan Investigations Targeting Trump if They Gain Majority

<p>House Democrats are preparing to initiate multiple investigations focusing on President Donald Trump, his Cabinet, and his family if they secure a majority in the upcoming midterm elections. This election will determine which party controls Congress during the latter half of Trump's final term.</p><p>Historical trends indicate that the party in power in the White House, in this case, Republicans, typically loses one or both chambers during midterm elections.</p><p>Democratic leaders in the House have begun strategizing for this potential outcome, as reported by Fox News Digital.</p><p>Rep. Jason Crow, D-Colo., who serves on the House Armed Services and Intelligence committees and co-chairs the House Anti-Corruption Caucus, stated, "I'm going to start on the Department of Defense. Our service members are being put at tremendous risk. There is corruption, there's incompetence, there is nepotism at the DoD." He added that there are concerning reports regarding connections between defense funding and requests from the White House to direct spending to companies associated with the Trump family.</p><p>Crow has indicated that impeachment could be a consideration again, stating, "It's one of several tools that Congress has to pursue accountability, to get information, and to attack corruption. I won't hesitate to use that tool if that's the right one. But there are other tools available to us, too."</p><p>While several impeachment resolutions have been introduced in the past two years targeting Trump and his officials, none have gained significant traction within the Democratic Caucus.</p><p>House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., has been noncommittal when asked about impeachment, suggesting it would not be the primary focus if Democrats win in November. Instead, two presumptive chairmen have indicated that addressing perceived corruption and mismanagement within federal agencies will likely be the initial approach.</p><p>Rep. Robert Garcia, D-Calif., who is expected to lead the House Oversight Committee if the chamber flips, mentioned he is already collaborating with presumptive House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jamie Raskin, D-Md., on potential investigations. Garcia highlighted several areas of interest, including investigations into the Trump family, the Jeffrey Epstein case, and corruption within ICE and DHS.</p><p>Raskin has already initiated requests for information regarding the business dealings of Trump family members and other officials. He stated, "The Trump family has turned the entire executive branch into a money-making enterprise, so there’s more than enough corruption and lawlessness to keep Democrats across the House busy for years." He emphasized the commitment to uncovering facts and holding accountable those involved in wrongdoing.</p><p>Republicans have expressed concerns that a Democratic majority could impede their legislative agenda. House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, R-La., has suggested that Democrats would pursue impeachment against Trump immediately if they gain control.
