Democrats Fundraise in Nantucket Ahead of Midterm Elections

<p>Democrats are fundraising in Nantucket, Massachusetts, as candidates and party leaders seek to increase campaign contributions ahead of the November midterm elections. The Democratic National Committee, Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, and Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee reported a combined total of approximately $136 million in cash on hand as of June 30, compared to about $277 million held by Republican counterparts, according to federal filings.</p><p>This summer, notable figures such as House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Texas Senate candidate James Talarico, and Rep. Seth Moulton have participated in fundraising events on the island. Sen. Jon Ossoff attended a fundraiser hosted by Elizabeth Frawley Bagley, a U.S. ambassador to Brazil, on August 29, as reported by the Boston Globe.</p><p>The fundraising efforts also extend to Martha's Vineyard, where former President Barack Obama attended an event on August 31, hosted by former Attorney General Eric Holder, benefiting the National Democratic Redistricting Committee.</p><p>Wes Moore, a potential presidential candidate in 2028, was present at a DNC fundraiser on Martha’s Vineyard on August 8. Iowa state Rep. Josh Turek, a Democratic nominee for the open Senate seat, was seen in Nantucket during the Iowa State Fair, although he did not comment on his fundraising activities.</p><p>Democratic donors Frank Herron and Sandra Urie hosted a brunch for Moulton on August 2, following a previous event with Jill Biden in 2022. Michelle Obama also visited the island on August 23 for a book promotion event.</p><p>Nantucket has historically attracted prominent Democrats, celebrities, and wealthy individuals. Former President Joe Biden and his family have visited the island for Thanksgiving celebrations for decades. Jill Biden was also seen on the island in July promoting her memoir.</p><p>Republicans have also utilized Nantucket's donor network, with Vice President JD Vance and other Senate candidates participating in fundraising events there in 2022. The National Democratic Redistricting Committee is focusing on key battleground states including Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Wisconsin.</p>
